Kroxet Books is an independent publishing imprint aiming to introduce the very best of Nordic literature to an English-speaking readership. We publish both translations of classic works as well as contemporary Nordic literature in all its forms, from novels and poetry to non-fiction. We place a special emphasis on English-language works produced in increasing numbers by Nordic writers with immigrant backgrounds.
We are driven by a deep passion for our literary heritage. Scandinavian and Finnish folk poetry, dating back at least a millennium, already explored the mundane and personal as much as the mythical and epic. There’s an untamed and quirky spirit to Nordic writing. Some of its subtleties will — inevitably — be lost in translation. But what can be conveyed, we believe, is profoundly worthy of appreciation by a wider audience.
Kroxet Books is an imprint of Kulttuurivihkot, an independent Finnish publisher specializing in novels and poetry, as well as a bimonthly magazine on politics, society, arts, and philosophy. Founded in 1973, Kulttuurivihkot expanded into book publishing in 2017 and has since added a number of award-winning and critically acclaimed works to its catalog.
